Our Story

All the menus at the Pub Cartier Arms are executed according to three simple philosophies. British inspired, with the highest quality locally sourced ingredients, while being one of the great tables of Montreal.

The food

Drawing on the history of old Montreal and its early roots and connections to Britain, Pub Cartier Arms aims to capture the golden age of railways in Canada at the turn of the 20th century. Modeled on modern private clubs in London and late 1800’s railway hotels in Canada, Cartier Arms will provide a quality of service reminiscent of the late Victorian era, while remaining more inclusive and contemporary in its menu offerings and ambiance.

philosophy

(September 6, 1814 – May 20, 1873) was a Canadian statesman and Father of Confederation. The English spelling of the name—George, instead of Georges, the usual French spelling—is explained by his having been named in honour of King George III.

One of the most influential figures of Victorian Canada, along with his political associate, Sir John A. Macdonald, first prime minister of the dominion of Canada, Sir-George Étienne was integral to the founding of the country in 1867.

Sir George-Étienne was deeply involved in the railway business and his early contributions would eventually lead to the construction of the Gare Viger train station and hotel which would play a huge role in the development of the fledgling nation of Canada. His primary residence was located just steps from the Cartier Arms, and has since been turned into a museum and historic site honouring this great man.
